“To manifest Sattvaguna ( guna of light)
our actions must be pure”

Bhagavad Gita 3:21
WHAT IS YOGA ?

“YOGAH CITTAVRTTI NIRODHAH”
Yoga is the cessation of movements in the consciousness
Yoga Sutra I. 2

As with any mountain you cannot arrive at the top with out climbing.
Hard labor is required to improve in any skill, and so it is with yoga.
Patanjali has given us the 8 limbs of yoga in order to assuredly guide us through our travail.
First and foremost we must conduct ourselves consciously, the first 2 limbs of yoga are just that; Yama and Niyama our commitments to our world and our person.
Our bodies crave an effort and we are given Asana to be our physical discipline.
Once our bodies have become firm from our asana practice we begin to link our physical discipline to a mental discipline by commencing Pranayama, aiming the mind on the breath.
With the mind harnessed we come within, Pratyahara, closing off the senses and becoming focused.

This enables us to be concentrated, raising awareness, Dharana. With this concentration we are then able to contemplate on the awareness that has been raised, Dyana.
Leading us to our final goal Samadhi, being self-realization.
So dependent are all these limbs that their properties cannot be discriminated, one cannot practice yoga without each limb being enabled.
Yoga is the union of the body, mind and soul.
